ms Westerdam

The ms Westerdam was originally built in 1986 as the mv Homeric, with a capacity of 1,000 passengers. After Holland America purchased the ship in 1988, it was renamed, expanded to a capacity of 1,494 guests and redesigned. Highlights of the expansion project were the creation of a state-of-the-art, 800-seat two-deck show lounge – the Admiral’s Lounge, the Explorer’s Lounge, Ocean Bar, Book Chest library Card Room and Halve Maen meeting room. A $2 million collection of 17th and 18th century art and antiques, themed to Dutch worldwide exploration, enhances the ship’s decor. The Westerdam features six suites and 18 deluxe staterooms, which offer a bed that can be converted to a larger size as well as a sofa bed. Each spacious stateroom is equipped with individually controlled air conditioning, telephone with computerized wake-up service, multi-channel music system and closed-circuit television. More than a third of the staterooms have convertible twin-to-queen beds. Also, four staterooms are equipped to accommodate physically challenged passengers.
